Hafþór Björnsson’s Chase for a 515 kg Deadlift

Hafþór Björnsson performs a heavyweight deadlift attempt on stage during an international strongman event with Rogue weight plates and dramatic night lighting.

Hafþór Björnsson’s chase for 515 kg shows just how difficult it is to keep adding weight at the very top of strength sports.

In 2020, Hafþór pulled 501 kg / 1,104.5 lb, setting one of the most iconic deadlift records in history. It then took him five years to push that number higher, first to 505 kg and then to 510 kg.

At the Enhanced Games, he attempted 515 kg / 1,135 lb and managed to get the bar past his knees before missing the lift. Even though the attempt was unsuccessful, it still showed how close he is to breaking another massive barrier.

At this level, a 5 kg jump is not small. It is the difference between a historic lift and a missed attempt. Nonetheless, it was an amazing performance, and it will be exciting to see how he looks in his next outing.
